Take the example of Gustave Dore, he copied tons of art book from masters. Copying will make you a good artist simple as that

They didn't have to work at a soul sucking job for 40 hours a week and received mentorship every single day and were given the time and money to work at their craft.

Also they almost always were born in Nobility or higher class meaning they didn't have to worry about the toils of being a peasant. So they had sheer luck of the draw as far as being born in the right family who could pay their way into putting their child in education in the arts.

The highest of their arts was the ultimate representation of their cultural and economic prosperity, art was not something "for the people" it was for only the richest and most educated to learn and enjoy.

So don't respond to this thread. Stop browsing /ic/. Stop feeding undeserved entertainments to yourself via television, video games, and porn.

Feel the form. Draw from life, from photos, from imagination. Mix all of what you see and think together. Look at your works and reflect on what you see as inadequate and what you determine to be a success. Eliminate the wastefulness in your art by introspection; uplift yourself by challenging yourself to do what is outside of your comfort zone. Do it until it becomes natural.

Fuck books. da Vinci didn't learn from a book, he was apprenticed in his mid-teens to a master. Van Gogh had connections to art dealers, which gave him a steady supply of materials. Rembrandt came from wealthy stock that could afford to finance his expensive art education, again apprenticed to a master, then he became a land lord to continue financing his art life. Either find a master to teach you and work for little to nothing, have a notable connection to afford you your decadent lifestyle, or come from wealth.

Better yet, fuck all of that shit. You become a man and make yourself great. You are the finest clay, the master architect, and the most important sculptor of yourself. You can do anything you want if you please and take it seriously.

if you attempt to recapture what those artists desired to capture in their pieces. You should learn your new medium first then strive to manifest your own ideals in your own works.
