it may just be the lighting, but I've adjusted the value of the image so some of the patches are more clear. Its often very subtle, but if you get to the stage where you're spending many hours on a single piece, the problem compounds massively and your pieces end up very messy.

It appears you have been rubbing some graphite on the page in some places, via the palm of your hand. This can also be caused by laying things on top of the paper, or closing a sketchbook on the page too, so I may be wrong.

Basically, every art medium has different things you have to do to treat it right and keep it happy. Pencil isn't super temperamental at all, but there are still a few things you have to watch out for. Accidental smudging is the big one.

Really not something you have to be too stressed about as a beginner. Its more of a keeping "oh yeah I should try breaking that habit" casually in the back of your mind type thing.
