A bunch of tutorials tell me to try drawing this, am I supposed to try doing this every day?

Never did any serious drawing before
Just started going through drawing on the right side of the brain, someone in one of these threads said to start there. Doing some of the first exercises. No matter what I'm doing I can't shake the feeling that I'm fucking up easy stuff. Is there a way to get over that?
I'll post my abortion of an attempt at pic related in a bit.

Summary: Right Side of brain good at seeing and Left Side good at words. Left side doesn't want to look at thing for long, so it tried to make symbols to save time. So if you want to unlearning symbol drawing start by picasso igor stravinsky upside down. it force the Left side of the brain to stop interfering with thr R mode(right side of the brain).

So I'm an absolute newbie when it comes to drawing and I'm going through the sticky but I'm confused. As I think I understand it symbol drawing refers to using iconic ideas to represent things (a sun simply being a circle with rays shining out, a cat being a circle with some triangle ears and nubs for feet and tail) rather than drawing them as they are or rather how you perceive them as, is this correct?

So if for example I did the exercise where you copy the picasso portrait from an upside down reference and rightside up it is recognizable bit perhaps not a perfect recreation would that mean I am not symbol drawing?

I just want a way to determine if I'm guilty of symbol drawing or not.

Not same anon but id say really only use it to teach you how to measure shapes, angles, and relationships, similar to pic related. Try to break away from it though, you can learn that stuff without guidelines and it'll become a crutch like other anon said.

I'm trying to follow the sticky and draw pic related, but I never feel I'm getting the pencil strokes right. The lines are either too short or too long. Any advice?
