Shiny skin and glowing sparkles aren't themes - paintings that show the Crucifixion are religiously themed -- a theme is the general idea that a painting is trying to get across. Ideas are a bit more specific and have to do with imagery; the objects in an image and how they're placed. The objects like cat-ears or maid outfits are commonly found in cat-girl themed drawings and maid outfit themed drawings, which are very common in the anime/japanese scene. The idea of a girl wearing cat ears of a maid outfit is very cliche and overdone.
It doesn't matter how many people do the same shit that he does, if anything that just further emphasizes what I mean by how those paintings are unoriginal in their ideas and compositions.
I don't see how you can think those are original spins on girls with cat ears or girls in maid outfits; they're literally just that. They are trying to portray cute young attractive girls faces wearing these objects -- not very original since portraiture is literally everywhere -- not even his stylization is original. Large eyed girls with small noses/mouths that look very girlish are nothing new -- and to make matters worse, both of those girls have the same face.

Drawing as well as him doesn't matter when I'm not arguing over his technical ability, however I will say that I am pretty confident I can draw/paint some things better than he does. Even with that, a person who is popular is not shielded from criticism because they're popular-
