you mean you don't go with the colors in mind right away and instead use grey? i usually just do the lines first then add another layer to fill the colors in no fancy layer techniques like you did or base colors for that matter like this snack drawing for instance, i just draw the lines and just did it with 4 separate colors without using a base color i'll make sure to keep this in mind next time i draw but for now i must use the loomis method with boxes
