In my limited experience you can do everything with ANY brush. But it might result in very exotic results which might not be appealing. Experiment anon and see what brings the best results with least effort. For me the king is any fuzzy asymetrical brush which changes the pattern as you draw (and pressure = opacity)

metal (and other reflective surfaces) arent made by picking "metal" color but creating illusion of that surface reflecting light. Just google swords for reference to get a clue
