hey op, The idea of applying a SRS to art intrigues me. I always had assumed the knowledge from art to be more ephemeral, lying in General knowledge (understanding concepts) and motor ( like playing an instrument ). I would then asses what spot I was weak in and drill that area. The issue is, I find that I often was misguiding myself in what I believed I was truly weak in. Its easy to think that your understanding of anatomy is off when your drawings have wonky anatomy, but the real more blatant issue is line quality. Having an ideal feedback system or a structured study system would probably have saved me some time in that regard.

One concern I might have about using anki and having the cycle be cue-draw-reflect is that anki also measures the time between cue and response, or so I thought. It seems like it would become unusable in that sense. That might make a manual SRS box more applicable?

Your idea is very intriguing to me. I happen to be reading "Ultralearning" by Scott H. Young and can see some clear parallels about how other people have rapidly developed abilities. I am yet to apply this to my own work ( since I haven't finished the fucking book) but plan on it. My goal is art as a main career, then learning french and playing piano, singing, memorizing binomial nomenclature and then going to a university for zoology later in life. Art is an intense passion but denying any of the others would be a sin.

Nevertheless, know that you have a kindred spirit in your goals. I'll be watching this thread like a hawk. love you fampai

I don’t get it.

How does someone spend years refining their technical skills to a professional level, only to just use it to bangwagon on the latest online craze? How can you do this and still maintain your artistic soul?

Thanks anon :) that's actually a surprisingly nice compliment

I'm in Canada, so this link prob won't work for you, but here is the Noopet I use and it works nice.

https://www.amazon.ca/Noopept-20-Strength-Cognitive-Piracetam/dp/B01LYUUOOS/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3B7FO5UGSG0N2&keywords=piracetam&qid=1578070385&sprefix=piracitam%2Caps%2C149&sr=8-1

Lions mane and the other mushroom powders are good as an immune support but that pretty much it, it's just strange and foreign enough that people will buy into it. Even the strongest nootropics can't make you highlander and most of it is exorbitant lies. Usually, the best you can get out of a nootropic is a 10-30% increase of your current rate or level. It's difficult to wade through the shit sometimes, especially when its pushed or connected to a celebrity.

Of course I was nebulous at first, but all I did was pick one thing, set aside the money for it, and then if it worked, it worked. I started with adrafinil, an alternative and less healthy version of moda. It cost me around 30$ and the difference was noticeable. Good enough for me to start a routine with it. The thing with Nootropics is that people are so worried that its a scam, they limit their potential because they spend the time trying to evaluate whether its working or not. and vice versa, they have so much faith that they allow the placebo to take hold (which, if I take a pill that allows me work focused an few extra hours, even if it was placebo, it was worth it)

Knowledge is key in all of this. Correcting your physical performance will always yield the best outcome. Especially if you are moving from very unhealthy to being healthy. Once you're living better, study what nootropics interest you and weigh their positives and negatives. Always fact check and never take celebrity endorsements at face value. When you find something you want to invest in, set some money aside to get the smallest effective dose.

basically. Be smart

don't worry about appealing to a mass market until you are confident enough in your own artwork. Study hard, draw things you like in the off time. People will follow eventually, when your hard work strikes a chord with them. After that, something new from a series/game/movie will come out that you love, and you'll draw something from that. That's when you'll get followers. People inherently are able to tell when you enjoy what you work on, and it will spread

I mentioned getting online mentors and peer reviews, and I believe its a better remedy for this then actually, actively throwing your money into a toilet

If you approach an artist open to giving portfolio reviews and pay upright, the value you will get from that will be much more effective. They will not have fear of saying something that will get them in trouble, or jeopardize their job so they will be much more straight forward. A lot of the time, they are working artists as well so they will know what type of feedback they would want in your position. And, since its a 1-1 setting, not a 1-20+ setting like a traditional classroom, the bonus there goes without saying

Or, if you are lucky enough to have an artist give you feedback for free, you are getting valuable information from someone in-industry, the turn around for them is, they can use your content to generate money (think art youtube channels that do paint overs)

these people don't know you personally they don't feel a need to pull punches. I've received some very poignant C&C through this manner, not to mention the wealth of free feedback you can get by literally posting on any discord server+thread here and being polite

Anything and everything else can be learned from Video tutorials and books. If there is something you can't grasp, it shouldn't be on the prof's head to try to cram the information in, it should be on you to grasp it. learning from more then one source always triumphs over they one and done classroom setup.

Mind you, I've only really stepped foot in like, 2 art college and seen what I talked about before. If you are referring to an Atelier, that's a whole different story

I dunno anon, maybe. I've chatted to a bunch of people from here in one way or another. Maybe we're just enlightened minds connecting. Remember; the true master eats blackpills and spits out whitepills, instead of taking both the backpill and the leadpill

sorry about the delayed response senpai, been busy

Look into the slowcarb diet, its what worked for me, personally. I found it after reading "the four hour body", so if you want to look more in depth at that and how it works you can. I've also experimented with paleo, bulletproof and keto, but found that slow carb was the one for me ( for the most part though, everything in slow carb and paleo is close to being interchangeable, aside from some food exceptions). That and HIIT exercise maximizes your free time without compromising your body (Around 60 seconds of full sprint after warm up is equivalent to a 40 minute run. This mindset works for weights as well, doing highest weight you can rep without compromising form only a few times is significantly better then many reps of a lighter weight)
best of luck champ. love ya
