It teaches you how to love the act of drawing, ensuring that you'll want to keep doing it and not remain stuck as a beginner forever.
Draw the things that you like, use references and don't be afraid to try new tools. More advanced knowledge should only come later, and for now what should be focused on is making sure that the subject of your art is identifiable.
You'll learn way more if you just draw and then later compare it with the work of others and also photos to see where you got things wrong and how to make it better. Once you identify the problem then you can focus on it and study further.

What do you like drawing? Humans? Animals? Architecture? Pick something, draw a lot, observe and compare. However, don't get too comfy and challenge yourself to draw new things or difficult things within a field of interest.
The hardest part is to keep going. That is why you have to love it and understand that improvement comes with time. Just draw. Copy photos, copy other drawings you found interesting, trace, do whatever you feel like doing as long as you enjoy it. Persevere and don't let the first results that are going to be shit bring you down.
If you feel like you are lacking ideas, look at more art, watch movies, play games, read books, anything that will help you grow your visual library and feed your creativity.
