ambient light is the light that hits objects from the MAIN lightsource, be it the sun, a lamp, a glowing streetlight, fire

Diffused light is usually from a SECONDARY lightsource to the side, or behind an object and can easily be identified if its a different colour from the main light, like a smartphone light, a candle, a magical purple item or whatever

so for example a night scene would have blue ambient light from the moon and the diffused light would be all the orange shit all over the scene being lit up like the neck, grass, hair etc.
