I don't know how to explain it in words so I painted over it. The one you did looks too broken up, I think, it somehow looked even more like artifacting. The rim light should help describe the form and surrounding lighting conditions. It can be broken, but areas where it's broken mean there's something casting a shadow there. I tried leaving it broken in a few spots where it seemed to make sense, but in most places it looked like it should be more uniform. I didn't go over the legs.
