Its because too many artists focus all their energy on one thing, and that is usually rendering. One of the reasons why the DA crowd are so focused on things like that rather than basic fundamentals is because learning all that is too hard or takes too long for their shit attention spans. This results in endless turd polishing and years of stagnation.

Another common thing is that they are good at copying and memorizing a handful of set poses instead of learning basic fundamentals. Shit falls apart when they try to combine set poses (usually with differing perspectives or conflicting poses) and it looks wonky and wrong as in that pic.

Also, what is even going on in the background, is she kneeling sideways below the table? Jesus that neck.

I'm starting to see it after reading a bunch of his critiques. While he is right on most of the proportion/anatomy flaws in the works, he does gets really preachy about what is attractive and what isn't. Further evidence is how many times he uses the "creepy" term to describe anything he does not approve of, and he comes off as a high-horse riding moral crusader; also apparently the idea of someone being open about any fetish he does not approve of is wrong and "shameless" (so those keeping their art on a low profile is "cowardly" to him but being open with it is "shameless"... yup reeks of SJW doublethink). Id bet that he came out of SomethingAwful, considering his self righteous attitude.

>It's unsure to determine what the author wants since he's vague about his complaints. He's not too helpful since he doesn't talk about the fundamentals or methods to help artists. The author mentions how an artist can't do a side view, but doesn't show reference, tutorials, proportions, redlines, or form/technique suggestions.

Agreed. He is way too full of himself in his critique, and even an average lurker in the animu threads churns out better redlines than he does.

Now all that being said, I do wholeheartedly agree with the examples of some artists who went full retard like that Jay Naylor "there are no mistakes in my images" comments, and I did get a chuckle out of the "The best way to describe Dave Hopkins is that he is the Tommy Wiseau of the furry fandom." comment.
