Am I getting ahead of myself trying to draw the entire bodies when practicing gestures?

The ones on the left was me following along Steve Huston doing these types of exercises. He seemed to focus on a small area per picture rather than drawing the whole thing.

Mine are on the right and I feel like maybe I was too occupied with drawing the whole thing instead of focusing on the gesture and form of smaller areas.
