I have another story that's fairly new. It takes place in the deep south in the 90's. It starts with a black guy, Todd, getting in a fight with some redneck outside a bar, almost winning, and then getting beat up by the redneck's group. The people around them watch as they go at him with crowbars and bats, and no one helps Todd up as he lays bleeding. He wakes up in the hospital, and gets anxious when the nurse draws his blood. He might have something. He flirts with the nurse but she politely rejects his advances. Charlie, his main sugar daddy whom Todd secretly dislikes, picks him up from the hospital and jokes "They got you pretty bad. Now I am the cute one haha" and suggests that Todd just come live with him so he can take care of him as he recovers. Charlie is brain damaged and can't distinguish between his memories and the present. He dwells on his past and mistakes Todd as the dead love of his youth, whom he met in his football team. Todd is a young prostitute who takes Truvada, and he knows that it's a matter of time until it fails to protect him or destroys his organs. He is a troubled and bitter orphan, yearning for a place and people to belong to. He sells drugs, prostitutes himself, and steals, especially from Charlie. Outcasted by everyone due to his mixed race and violent behavior, he lives on the margins of society. The only people with whom he has some sort of place and power is among his johns and daddies, whom he resents yet appreciates.

One day, he sees a man walking alone in twilight, and suspects that he's a tradesman due to how he's dressed. They often carry cash, so Todd attacks and gets a hold of his wallet. The man pulls him off balance and punches his gut. The wallet hits the ground, and Todd writhes next to it....
