at this point it's no longer possible to "just delete" the threads and posts without additional notice and openess, at least without upsetting the users

these threads have been as off topic for half a decade or something like that, the problem only arised when you suddenly enforce rules after years of running under the assumption that while we broke some rules it was commonly accepted as a gray area thing as long as it didn't leak outside the thread

I mean, sure it wasn't an overnight thing, but this whole streisand effect could have been avoided and the jannies would've had 9000x less work for the upcoming weeks if they just would've made one post saying that we're toughening our off topic rules on day X which might result in these threads getting deleted

but what can you expect from a site that sells ad space for literal CP sites
