I've only done a few commissions but I'm friends with people who do it for a living and I'll tell you now that your skills are not what determines your success. It's a market like any other, if you want to make money you need to draw what your audience is looking for and get your name out there.
The average furry doesn't have much eye for art, they will spot if something is off but won't know why, detail the vagina and boobs and they will think its a masterpiece.
