The same way you estimate it for every other commodity : basic accounting and economics.

let's say a guy wants me to draw furry anal vore.
>There's two characters, one is small
>but of course they have rainbow fur and piercings
>Guy wants full color
>I spend 4 hours on this

>Cost of living is 1000 a month
>I get X commissions a month with varying complexity
>assuming a sketch is 1 hour, flat color 1h30 and full textured 3h, I work Y hours a month
>let's say 40
>I need to charge at least 1000/40 = 25 per hour just to break even
>but wait, I get dicked by taxes
>27 ?

At this point, the picture of an anthropomorphic rainbow dog shoving another one in his ass already costs 130 at the bare minimum.

you now want to figure out a margin for two reasons : one, money is fucking awesome. two, X is constantly fluctuating and you want to be able to absorb market fluctuations. Take people working for show business, a sound engineer, lighting technician or the people in charge of costumes make my monthly salary in 3 days, and I send shit into space for a living. But the reason they do is that they sometimes work 3 days a month, and not every month. It's the same for you, you need to account for that according to what you draw.

if you draw basic anime coom, fantasy or other mainstream categories, demand is relatively high and stable, you can get away with a smaller margin and low hourly rate, you'll likely work way more than 40 hours a month.
if you're the anal vore unbirth futa NTR snuff guy, you'll go several months unemployed and need something like 60 or 80% to stay afloat.

so in the end, pricing the example commission at 200$ would make it look like you're a greedy asshole, but would actually be fairly reasonable.
