i feel like this is a bit confusing though.
of course areas completely absent of light will have no texture whatsoever, they will be completely black.
but say your subject is half in the sun, half not.
the areas in shadow, still lit by the sky and bounced light, will have a lot of texture and visible detail.
depending on light intensity and exposure, the "shadow" side may have much more detail than in the direct light.
for example, if you were to overexpose your subject, the areas in sunlight could be completely overblown and flat white.
