tl;dr - Don't worry about it.
Longer answer - Gestures are all about capturing the impression the form gives to you. You're not trying to draw it 'correctly', trying to do that will just waste time and you'll end up frustrated. Don't worry about the proportions, shading, anatomy, or anything else. Doodle the form of what you see, and if you have time, tighten it up then.

Do take note, the is from the perspective of a person who studies on their own, rather than actively being guided. Take what I say with a grain of salt, and please, PLEASE experiment. Do 30 sec gestures on your own to get a feel for them.
