if you haven't gotten confident making an accurate image with clean and confident lines first, 'chicken scratches' will always look bad, but then you don't see any true chicken scratching in professional works since it's intentional, it would be more or a textured line or repeated long lines if it's a sketch. as opposed to where the lines often interfere with the readability of the image. also messy chicken scratched lines can make you see the image as better than it is by cheating details and shapes that you can't define, so it's best to get out of the habit. draw with your arm/lock your wrist/fingers and it shouldn't happen
