I did another portrait painting based off of a photo, like the one I posted a little while ago (>>4936011). it doesn't look very good as a thumbnail, but I think the actual painting turned out okay. I feel like I overwork my illustrations a bit, like I'll mess around with brushes and details and refining spots so much that it becomes very unfocussed in the end. does anyone know any books or videos online that go over when to 'stop' working on a part of a painting?

the colours do look nice I think, they're very striking and fairly cohesive. it reminds me of that sort of vaporwave-aesthetic with all the pinks and purples and stuff. the characters do look like they're standing, not walking. having a stronger ground plane and sense of perspective might help with posing the characters more convincingly. It looks a little bit like you drew the characters first and then added in the background at the end, when they should be done in tandem so that they don't clash.
