My life revolves around work and my commute to it. It eats up most of the week, and the 2 hours maximum 3x a week I get to draw on my workdays needs to be productive. Weed helps quickly and conveniently. I cannot value your judgment of that, because getting stuff to paper is the goal, and no opinion matters other than my own.

I say Do Not Draw.

I say instead, take a Pen or Pencil to a blank piece of paper and See What Happens.

The distinction? The former intimidates, and cripples creativity through the pursuit of unrealistic ideals. The latter IS different, free of expectation, of conformity, of censure, since the objective is just getting marks on that white expanse.

Just this can be an unscaleable mountain, a devouring gulf. The inadequacy of skill, the pseudo unworthiness of not having a whole statue after knocking off a few chips of stone. It's a fear reasonably unreasonable for the effects on fledgling artists. Every line a lesson, every breath a parable. I only ever have the vaguist idea of what I intend to draw and am surprised by what happens ,both in art and the story.
This is what I have been doing over the past few weeks:hyperlapse videos of me drawing stuff for a few hours .Sometimes I will expand on a work, and make rhe sequels justifiable. Each one a mystery unraveling. So...

See what happens.

Besides having an identity directly connected to your posts, what benefits does one get? Too busy smoking marijuana to look it up myself.

A sketchbook is a tool, and you should consider it as such.

In my art philosophy, the paper that I press pen or pencil to have specific qualities that I utilize in specific stages of creating the "final draft",where all of the previous actions find their ultimate conclusion. With very cheap doodle pads like those found in the stationary section of your local supermarket, I would take a cheap black ballpoint pen and compose the scene of what I want to draw. Black swirls and blobs, framing the action in my mind of what is going on in the picture, and filling in the writer's contribution to the situation, explaining what events led up to this moment nailed to paper, and to then work out how the characters interact, and make it as dynamic as possible. I would go as far as scribble different elements of the same subject, like designing a Pasha's ceremonial elephant and then designing the howda the Pasha is riding in,and the Pasha himself, his personality revealed through a dozen visual cues. I can go on,but the idea is that 95% of my artistic output is inevitably this sort of work, that must be done to achieve the best of what you are capable of.

After you get a sense of what you are going to draw from rough scribbles on cheap notepads, you then move onto your sketchbooks. Here is where you design all those bits,or rough in an environment you can tuck in the negative space between your central elements of characters, props and scenery. Here, you explore ideas, and learn from the process of drawing the ideas for the next. Here there IS NO FAILURE, because these sketches are not for the general public, no matter how good or bad they might be,they are but stepping stones to the Final Draft, and people who are too stupid to realize that will snipe at them. But every line you draw is the gateway to the next. By doing the work, and redoing the work until you get it sufficiently right, then moving onto the next bit,you then can then compose the Final Draft...

Designing the Crew, and just now I put a top hat on this angry dwarf, and from a hatch white rabbit dolls emerge. Although these are physically plush toys filled with sand, they are also animated and competent with infiltration and assault, and there seems to be no limit as to how many can be pulled from it,more like a power extending its influence through the deployment of minions. I will decide on the alien's relationship with the hat, what the hat IS,DOES,AND SIGNIFIES,even its appearance will mean "something" to its history. I have already decided that his name is Batasta, something Throop the Three headed ogre would yell as a general curse. Batasta is perpetually angry, and I am contemplating having his whole species being dumpy raging dwarves, just so I can do a story of the crew being dragged to his cousin's wedding.

I like him.
