One of my first coloring attempts, I'm really not sure as to what I'm doing. How would I go on about adding simple 3D background coloring to this kind of undefined yet coloring style?

Also how do I leave the comfort zone? I'm not that awesome with anatomy, but I feel like these are pretty casual currently. There's no variety - just trying to draw it correctly to not fuck up bigtime on the anatomy.
