when viewed through a long enough lens vanishing points become imperceptible, from an art standpoint it's close enough

If you wanted to draw a box really far away but zoomed in (or through long focal length lens) in this method, you'd find for the points to fit in a single page, the box would be miniscule or you could have a lot of pages...

It would depend on how far what youre drawing is. Very close up to the observer you should start using curves to denote a 5point(?) Very far away you can approximate a one point(front facing) or parallel with acute differences(sideways etc).

you can generally get away with just a horizon line and lines that look like they converge,. something like top right in pic attached is all you really need for illustration/painting- unless the focus is on perspective

Which raises the question if whether or not practicing perspective rigorously is that essential- thinking of life drawing, plein air or even still life. youre never close enough to whatever youre drawing to draw it in an extreme angle and when drawing still life <1m away binocular vision is retarded. realistically you have to frequently close your non-dominant eye to get an accurate drawing/painting.
Am i preaching a valid point here? Im just irritated at looking at drawings with extreme perspectives that dont consider how close/far the person looking at the image is- generally an eyesore on a laptop screen at normal sitting distance..
