Recently made the shift to digital from pencil stuff, this is my first 'painting' of a human being. For now I'm just doing construction, then the base tone, then trying to apply value properly. All using the same brush, save for a marker swipe with the nose. Using SAI.

Really fucked up the head/neck. That can mostly be blamed on sloppiness even during the construction. Hands aren't much to look at either. Kind of skipped out on details since it wasn't working out, so the head is mostly... Unrendered.

Read Loomis' Fun with a Pencil and Vilppu's Drawing Manual, but I guess I should read both some more. Or perhaps read up on value specifically. And color theory in general. The skin color was a poor job.

Criticism would be appreciated.

It's an exercise in perception in reproduction, keyword being exercise. It did still go better than it most likely would have gone right side up, and it mostly functions as a proof of concept. As long as you keep working, you'll get there.
