Well, you need not cling to conventional mediums now that this 21st century has so many options for creating. This is a screenshot of Second Life, but the characters were designed by me,and I did a community of 6,teenager,mature and old of both sexes, and their backstories could easily be spun into comics with the word balloons added post production. You have the opportunity to explore these new mediums without apology. Do so.

I also did a series of custom avatars that you could transform yourself into,Goblins. Six in all two of each age group: young, middle and old. I made their skins, clothes, hair (Mohawk or Topknot),and the vending machine that sold them. You are "coating" an avatar in textures that overlap giving the illusion of undergarments and overcoats, and tattoos. I had them pose for screenshots doing stuff in a fantasy themed place. They were fun to do,will never make me rich, but I could imagine a screenshot based comic of these six distinct personalities, enough static poses in SL for any sort of situation that setting up the panels would be easy. I wrote a short introduction for each to be displayed on the vendor, and you can just imagine the story going on in the pic if you had that much to go on. As an art platform,SL is unparalleled. I was friends with musicians and artists, and in my small way I am part of their history...

I was asked by the curator of that year's Burning Life, the SL compromise of Burning Man,and the archway with the eye was mine. I had an exhibit, too. Dripping eye stuff. Not too memorable.

Not feeding a troll, who would not digest what I am serving, but everyone else. I don't need a reason to pontificate, just an excuse to.

Take a pencil and scribble lightly on a drawing pad for exactly three seconds. Then see what the random shapes suggest.

Here's a crazy thought...

If what you are writing can be expressed in conventional imagery, you may want to try Second Life,or better still OpenSim. There you can build sets and scenery, create characters with thousands of options and props to choose from, then make panels from screenshots and add word balloons and special effects later. I did a bunch of goblin avatars and had them posing in someone's medival fantasy sim. You'll get the idea...
