I'm worried that my character design philosophy (spiky and circular shapes, varied and elaborate costume designs, old JRPGs/classic mecha/western fantasy influences, slighty more manlier male characters than what you usually see in modern japanese entertainment but still not Hokuto No Ken/Capeshit level) could be perceived as "outdated" and "wannabe old anime" by the young people who are more used to the more minimalistic, uniform, "grounded" and less polished character designs in series like Chainsawman, JJK or AOT.

As someone who is mostly influenced by mid 90s to early 2000s art styles but also digs good modern art styles like Made In Abyss or, from what I've seen, Gachiakuta, are there any actual noticeable differences in character design philosophy between current and older manga, or is it more related to the overall setting and tone of the story out of all things?
