Once you know where to put a square, you can just eyeball the ellipse.
For the square, the diagonals of all the squares will go to the same vanishing points (unless they're rotated, which isn't needed here).
To get this vanishing point, you can do some measuring (I'd get a book on perspective), you you can just eyeball one square you like and draw a line from the corners to the horizon to find the 2 vanishing points.
You can now make new squares by making sure the diagonals match the new vanishing points.
