you've nailed it on the head. NMA might just be one of the biggest time-wasters in the entire art education industry. I remember at one point when I was a beginner, when I wanted to learn to render my drawings, sitting through Chris Legaspi's "techniques of rendering" course, and getting nothing out of it. I gave it my full attention, stopped drawing for the week, and took notes while watching his lectures, yet lecture after lecture, I could feel my heart sinking as Chris kept repeating "Core shadow, Reflected light, then render render render"

>render, render, render!!
those were his exact words. He just kept saying that over and over again with no further explanation, while making tantalizing beautiful drawings, almost as if he were taunting his students. No mention about how to figure out the halftones or highlights, no mention on how to invent lighting, etc. I wanted to strangle him.

All the numbers on that site are hugely inflated. "20 hrs of lectures", "50 hrs of lectures", "100 hrs of lectures". They're all complete time-wasting demos and half-hearted commentary that tells you nothing. Literally only Vilppu's and Rey Bustos' lectures are good. They're packed full of content and never waste your time. (I also found Joshua Jacobo's live classes to be really informative, but everyone else's classes were a complete waste of time)
