You'll never compare to real artists. Your best work is merely a LARP compared to this. Give up already, free yourself from the weights. You won't make it, stop trying. Deep inside you know you just want it to end.

As a guy who is almost not doing it in base of age, working as shit in both approaches is killing my gains. I draw as Vilppu says a few months, but got stuck in everyday work and not grabbed a pen in a few weeks, and now I'm almost at entry level again.
Approaching the figure everytime in a different way is making a hell of my life.

Don't think about what you're drawing, just draw what you see. If you're truly doing that, nothing can go wrong.

Those necks look a little thin, but design wise you're visual "resting places" are in good taste.

You're painting is divided into a foreground and background. They don't feel like a single cohesive unit because you've painted them separately. They should feel as if they are in the same space. The contrast of warm colors in front and cool colors in back is nice, but when you mix colors with black to create darker values, you've taken any space you've created with atmospheric perspective and compressed it into the foreground. It's also making your painting look flat. Next time you paint, try using hard edges, no blending tool, and do not use black at all. Go to a %90 grey at most and do that sparingly. You might not see what i'm talking about as you read this, but it will make sense as you paint and you'll improve quickly. You've essentially polished a turd, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It shows that you're willing to carry out your entire idea to finish, which is important in painting, which is more of a 400m dash than a 100m sprint.

Break up that deco with more deco, google 'art deco frames' for some line art ideas, because your accents are great, but you need to push them a bit more.

And some general advice for most people in this thread: Stop watching anime. It's holding you back developmentally. It's nice to see people working on their contour drawing skills, but you need to expand your understanding of form and space. There's no rule that says that you have to make a painting by completing a drawing, then filling it in. Too many people here are creating paintings in such a stiff and formulaic way. I know it's because most of you learned your painting from concept artists in an attempt to emulate what you enjoy in art. I urge you instead, to learn painting from painters.

Literally just paint what you see. That's it. It seems like lame advice, but you'll get really fucking good at it if you put in the time.

Once you've got something on paper, you can start to think about water as a volume / translucent entity / light refractive nightmare.

But seriously. Just draw what you see. Don't make your water look like someone else's water from another place and time and different reference. Don't draw what you think water should look like. Just draw what you see. That's it.
