I don't really post outside of drawthread deliveries, but does it really matter if SFX are in kana or english? You don't read them literally, not like words in dialogue. Comic SFX are visual shortcuts to sounds that are impossible to transcribe, which is why different cultures have different onomatopoeia for the same sounds.

Going by that logic, kana and english SFX are interchangeable to me. You KNOW what the sound is. I think kana is more dynamic, (it can be displayed vertically much more gracefully and space-efficiently,) and to english readers, it has the added benefit of visual conveyance, without distracting the reader's mind with a particular word.

I don't think it really matters, though. It's weebie, but our japanese readers don't give a shit. It's not like "Gomenasai, my name is Ken-Sama," or some douche getting the chinese character for anus burned into their shoulder. If the context is correct, then why not use the more visually interesting option?
