>Nowadays everything seems either bland copypaste (isekaishit) or just too "simplified"
What on earth do you mean? Are you saying my male protags are boring and cliche?
Anyway, I generally agree with you. I think Anime and (to some extent manga) manga have had their styles homogenized even further - Japan has had a unique art style distinctive to their country for some time, but it varied from author to author, but it feels like it's coalesced into moe blob shit in more recent years (of course there are exceptions).
I think part of the problem is the overt focus on the designs of the female characters, it feels like it's to the point that the male characters are after thoughts.

Western animation tends to be all over the place visually (except with the whole cal-arts thing), but they tend to go for more abstract looking representational "cartoony" designs rather than the more realistically proportioned stuff that Japan goes for. The big issue is the limitation of the genres that western animation tackles (almost entirely comedy), and the cartoony designs just lend more to those genres.

It's not like Japan's designs are perfect either, they suffer from much the same issue that the calarts style does (picrel), and yet people have never gotten tired of it - which I suppose just shows either that the anime style is just inherently very pleasing, or that styles that are more 'realistic' are more inherently pleasing. I personally think it's the later.

For the western cartoons, a lot of those had no complaints about them artistically. For the first image, The second on the Bottom Row, The TMNTs, Starr (despite being a prime example of bean mouth), that particular iteration of sonic (people disliked the bandages, but didn't particularly care about the changes), and Gumball all range from being liked to people being nebulous about it.

Meanwhile Teen Titans Go is a noticeable downgrade, Red reeks of bean mouth when people are sick to death of it, Steven was a fairly hideous show and also beanmouth, Thomas the Tank Engine had a beloved stop motion style before going to that vector looking dreck, High Guardian Spice is wannabe weeb dreck (not "cartoony", so why is it there?), and finally Battle Toads had a fairly liked art style before being simplified into that more comedic style (it takes away from the "cool" nature of the characters).

So your list of hated western cartoons are pretty weak when half the list is actually liked visually, and the other half was disliked more so because of despised visual trends or changes from the established.
Also your Anime list shows a good amount of diversity for the art style, more than what the average person usually sees just perusing manga or anime - my biggest criticism against anime is how cookie cutter it often looks (picrel), and yet you've made that argument look silly.

And if a pale cyclopes girl with one eye was drawn in anime style, you'd probably cream your jeans - it's Pavlovian at this point. If you stopped jerking off to hentai for a while, you'd probably realise there's more to the art world than anime.

Well, I don't even care that much for the look of "genuine japanese anime", so it's not like I'm being biased. Honestly, it suffers from similiar problems as anime, in that it feels very same-samey to eachother, and they're taking many of the limited-animation ques from anime as well, despite some of them being used exceptionally poorly:

Have anyone you seen that Netflix Scott Pilgrim trailer? It looks good, but the FIRST FUCKING SHOT the trailer shows is a close-up of Kim Pine's face while talking... and they used the anime mouth flap... Why wouldn't you actually lip-synch for that scene?

Of course, the final nail in the coffin for this style is that a large amount of the shows it reps having annoying, preachy, shitty scripts. So when people notice the trend of shitty shows having this art style, they're going to hate it.

It's also probably just overused at this point too, just like with the "cal-arts" style.

Anyway, I'm noticing that two of your examples are fan-art, why not use the actual show's visuals? Isn't Owl-House actually "cal-arts" style?

>It's as on-model as you can get
What the fuck do you think animators do? You have to be fucking with me. If this artist handed in this drawing for a frame of animation they'd be fired on the spot. It's NOT on-model.

>You are just mad because i called your generic stuff trash, which it is.
I didn't post the image, nor do I care much about it (I actually like the mages you posted more), I just couldn't see a difference in quality.

>The Japanese fanart is more impressive because they manage to turn ugly as shit designs like PnF and actually make it cute
SO THEN YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT IT ISN'T ON MODEL! WHAT ARE WE DISCUSSING!?

>The western artist is too afraid of making something ugly so they default to their generic doll style comfort zone.
We... are talking about Japan... right? Picrel.

Look, it's fine that you love Japan so much that you think their art is better than everyone else's, just don't be shocked when people push back on that, and don't try and justify it with bullshit like "it's on-model" when it clearly isn't. Just say you like their art more and move on my guy.

Nah, everything went downhill whenever the average bland MC template became mainstream
