I think Loomis way is the easiest and most comfortable for me. The thing I consider most is the proportion and angle of the face, so the box is easier than the sphere. When you're familiar with that, you can just draw an arch for eye (brow) line, then middle line of the face (in any angle) and build from that.
There's other approach like anime style, that's use the sphere for cranium and go down.
If you are new, then choose one and stick with it. When you are comfortable, you can make your own way.

After watch Yoji Shinkawa, now I just start with an eyebrow and... struggle....
