Second Life, indirectly.

Back in the late 2000s,I was into Second Life, and I had a store that sold animated paintings made from GIFs found online. And from finding many cool ones at the Daily Rotten, I found my way to 4chan looking for stock. I like 4chan, and have plenty of advice for newbie artists.

My store.

I found 4chan by following posters on the Daily Rotten, which mysteriously ceased updating around 2012. GIF hunting was a sport, and the best of them were deconstructed and forged into a grid work of frames that a script would show in sequence, giving the illusion of movement.

I haven't been active in Second Life since 2014 or so,and my own experience of commerce was selling animated paintings made from GIFs,priced cheaply to encourage impulse buying and to make people happy. I know that people could make real life livings from their creations, but usually from high priced items like instant houses or heavily scripted things. But as a creative medium, SL will ever be priceless, testing the ingenuity and abilities of its inhabitants.

It's an avatar based chat program that uses a game engine where everything within was made by the players. You conjure building blocks, morph them, add your own textures, and link them up together into complex objects. There is a scripting language that can turn these things into sophisticated machines, and you can sell what you make for the ingame currency, then sell the currency back to the game company for real world cash. This pic is what I sold : animated paintings and stuff that I used GIFs with their frames laid out in a grid, then with a script, the frames displayed in sequence to give the illusion of movement. People could make livings from what they sold in game. But I kept my stuff cheap so everyone could indulge in them.
