Objectively
>Bierstadt for landscapes
>Gericault for subject matter
>Rembrandt for portraits
I don't know shit about artists nowadays though outside of digital ones.

I find the ROM a pain the ass, especially around summer since a lot of summer camps take their kids there. I know the AGO has a sweet exhibit going on right now with stuff from Thomas Cole and Bierstadt. I do agree though that the ROM has better sculptures by far. AGO has a lot of tiny busts but that's about it.

I love to paint in oil and would love to learn more about it. What are some good books about oil painting. I searched that mega thread and only found one. Most of them were drawing, and water colours.
Links to good ebooks on oil painting please.
Also General Art History books

Probably either this or Raft of the Medusa. I love contrast

How do I get into painting landscapes? I have James Gurney's Color and Light but I still have no idea how to approach landscape painting from a digital standpoint. Do I copy photos or should I just start by studying old masters like Bierstadt?

I honestly believe he's one of the top 5 greatest landscape painters in history. I dig how all of his skies end up looking like Valhalla

I'm not sure what you mean OP. Inspiration in my mind is on a person to person basis. That being said, if you're looking into painting landscapes, Bierstadt and Moran are fucking god tier.

Albert Bierstadt is a fucking god at making mundane clouds look like Valhalla.
