I've been using Loomis' fun with a pencil book and I've been copying the examples in the book as a way to understand what the book is teaching me. I feel like I should try me own things instead of being completely dependent on the references, any advice you could give me?

Hey I've been copying from Loomis' fun with a pencil and I was wondering if I should keep following the book as I'm not currently done yet, or should I also do my won sketches with what I have learned from the book?

I've been using Loomis' fun with a pencil book for a while and so far I've just been copying whatever is on the page I'm on. I feel like I should take what I learned from copying the examples and do my own thing with the heads. As of right now I'm on page 22 on the book, any tips for what I should do so I don't end up just copying the book and learning nothing?
