It's not just your toolset, it's your color choices too. They're all very similar in value, only the torch really pops, and it's colors don't even really complement the rest of the scene very well. Darken your darks, lighten your lights, a lot of your colored works seem to lack contrast.
Also, the girl's face looks a bit lazily done, I think you might want to try focusing on quality over quantity for a little while, because no offence, you seem to put little effort into your sketches and you don't seem to be learning much from them.
