motherfucker who can afford to go to art school?
In order to afford tuition for a year at SCAD, a person would need to have a full time job that brings home double the average pay most of the working class is able to earn.
Lets do some math.
A person going to SCAD for 4 years is going to rack about about $150k in debt just in tuition costs alone. A gov subsidized loan has an interest rate of 2.75%
On a 20 year repayment plan, that's $815 a month.
Art degrees aren't exactly valuable, so lets say they get real lucky and land an office job making $40k a year.
After taxes, that goes down to taking home ~$2.5k a month.
The median rent of a one bedroom apartment in the US is ~1k.
After paying rent and their loan, they have $685 left over, and spend $150 on food, leaving $535
Cool, still gotta pay for utilities.
Cheapest average cost of utilities is in NM, at $232 a month. After utilities, they have $303 left over.
Now comes transportation. Most of the US has shit public transport, so our art grad has a shitty clunker they paid for outright. Still gotta pay for car insurance tho. Average monthly cost of that is ~$118. Our grad now has $185 left over. Oh, and we can't forget about gas. Average spending on gas is $72.10 a month. Now our grad has $112.9 left over.
Communication is vital, so our grad has a cellphone. Average cost of that bill for one person is $70 a month.
Grad now has $42.9 left over for savings and doing fun things like occasionally going out.

Going to art school in a country without universal higher education when you aren't a trust fund baby is a dumb fucking move.
