Legitimate advice: It's all about how you advertise yourself. Find a niche that your style hits and hit it hard even if it means severely limiting what you show off.

I had a pretty okay social media where I posted a ton of different stuff. Fantasy, superheroes, mecha, different styles ranging from painted stuff to hard linework and flat color. Finally got good enough that i decided to throw out for commissions and IMMEDIATELY I got hit with a flood of bullshit. "Do you do furry stuff? Do you do NSFW? X seems overpriced can I pay Y?"

I realized I was getting attention from a ton of scattered places without any dominant "theme" or aesthetic. So I deleted everything, scrapped my account, and I'm rebuilding focusing ONLY on superheroes in linework and flat/gradiant color, which seemed to me to be my best combo (pic related). I do not show off anything in a different style or genre, or if I do it's a one-off so supers remain the obvious dominant theme. Anything I show people is curated to make me recognizable for a specific aesthetic. I haven't even got my social media rebuilt and I've already got commissions out the ass, all for the type of request I want because that's the kind of attention i attract now.

https://www.instagram.com/art_trufanov/ Take this guy. He's one of the guys I'm trying to copy for social media presence.
He's a perfect example of how to make it through style/genre branding, and he's at a very attainable skill level, too. I know plenty of you niggas are as good or better than him, and he's raking in the dosh.

We're all gonna make it, bro. I believe in all of us.

TL;DR CURATE YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA. You want clients who hire you for your aesthetic. If you have no distinct style/niche then the only thing appealing about you will be either how degenerate you're willing to go or how cheap you're willing to sell yourself.
