If the hatching and lines werent so damn perfect i would call these composition sketches or thumbnails. Both on the left looks good. Bird with hundred legs and wizard escaping collapsing magical portal

No object is impressive by default. That is up to the artist to pour his soul into the canvas and if he pours enough of it, perhaps then some may call it impressive. Some, not everybody.

Anything what isnt well known to broad audience (like faces or hands) can be drawn with great inaccuracy and average art connoisseur wont be able to point out the errors. And clouds come in infinite number of shapes.

Then you already know everything you need before deciding to draw skies. I suggest making landscapes which have a lot of sky shown (like looking horizontally from tall mountain) for max cloud gains while still having something else in the pic

My art output differs heavily if i (dis)like the object i am drawing. It differs even more if i am painting/crosshatching or experimenting with brushes and if i am tired or feeling well. I bet its normal

Try something else. I honestly cant comprehend how grinding 5min burns of people can helps BEGs in anything. Have you tried copying / referencing photos / pictures?
