It's a self-fulfilling loop of arrogance and ignorance. A lot of people (especially that anon) genuinely think that they know more about THe iNduStrY than everyone else, and try and tell it like it is to others on /ic/. They spread misinformation, and then /ic/ eats it up, regurgitates the false info like it's fact (since they don't know any better), and the cycle continues.

It's this cycle that feeds the many delusions of your average d/ic/khead, such as how so many think that fantasy / sci-fi / concept art, furry art, porn Patreons and social media commissions are the ONLY way to make a living with art.

I got my Elecom yesterday and it is a massive improvement. I cannot believe how well it works. First off, the screen haze is negligable. I can't notice any discoloration or blurriness at all, which is a relief since I was real worried about that. I also heard that it was 'too rough' (I got the rough version). I don't find this to be the case at all. Honestly, I wish it had even more tooth to it. Only con is that getting it on was kind of a pain in the ass, but nothing a little patience and a clean workspace can't fix. I saw on Amazon that they make Elecoms for Cintiqs 22HD so I ordered one right after this.

I'm never drawing on glass again. Fuck that.

IMO, yes. It's a much more appealing drawing experience. The tactile feedback is definitely worth the price & negligible screen effects.

Being a freelance illustrator is pretty tight - I've been doing this since around 2013-2014 and it's my sole income. You can make good money with it - money that is comparable to many other careers.

The catch is that it's a lot more entrepreneurial that people tend to think. You are essentially a 1-man business. Like any business, your product/service is not enough in itself to make the business to succeed. Your business skills are just as important (if not more) than your artistic skills. You have to know how to sell your illustration, and to who. Promoting your illustration work to the right people and forming solid relationships with commercial clients is very tough, but it's what needs to be done. A mediocre artist who regularly promotes themselves to the right people will see much more success than a skilled artist who does nothing. Posting on social media waiting to be 'discovered' is not enough.

It's a good career choice if your love illustration and have an interest in running an illustration business, and willingness to learn the relevant business skills.

Do you really think that marketing yourself to other artists on online artists groups is the best way to promote yourself? Why would you want to do that? What are they gonna do, hire you?

It's like saying that if you're a plumber, you should join a plumbing group to promote your plumbing business to other plumbers.

>Isn't posting art on social media immensely cucked on its own?
Your whole post is based on the false notion that posting on social media revolves solely around making fan art to "please a bunch of 13 year olds with ADD and daddy's credit card". This is simply not the case for most artists, and for you to think this just shows that you have a very poor understanding & narrow perspective on how artists use social media in general. Posting your work on social media is not "immensely cucked on its own".

>Make /ic/ Great Again
/ic/ has never been great, and it never will be great. The very nature of having an anonymous community with no accountability makes it impossible to reform for the better. There is absolutely nothing you can do to address the problems you may have with the board.

Go find another site if you want a better community.

It's stylistically inconsistent. There is very little cohesion to anything you've done. It's like you're trying to differentiate certain elements from one another just for the sake of them being different, without a single ounce of thought as to how it all fits together. This looks like you've never even looked at a map before.

Why does the top & bottom landmass have no texture?
Why is the forest area so incredibly saturated and detailed, and stylistically different from everything else?
Why did you make the mountain ranges drawn with such a thin, delicate, sketchy lines? Why are they such a faint color of orange which is hard to see? Why are they also stylistically different from everything else?
Why are the icons for the settlements flat black, when the mountains & forest are illustrated completely differently?
Why is the line work for the coast & roads & rivers so shitty? There are disconnected or overlapping lines that just look lazy.
Why is the line work for the mountains so detailed, while the coast is incredibly simple & smooth?
Why are the mountains in the north-west pointing diagonally when the other mountains aren't?
Why is the mountain range in the south drawn so differently from the other mountains?
Why are are there yellow outlines around some islands? Again - these look like these were lazily & quickly drawn.

You have to think about these things, fuck face.
