The side plane is as big or as small as you want it to be. If the side plane is bigger, then you're seeing the head from the side more. If the side plane is smaller, then you're seeing the head from the front more. It's a matter of camera positioning.

Don't overthink this perspective stuff so much. If you wanna get good at head drawing, first, learn to draw the skull from imagination, from any angle. I recommend getting a physical model of an anatomical skull from amazon. Second, you should download a thousand images from your favorite artist's twitter, and copy all 1000 of their drawings. Make careful, exacting copies, and you'll get a "feel" for how to construct a head, just like that.

The Loomis method doesn't work theoretically. It's not a math formula that you have to master. It's a language you have to learn. You don't learn languages by constructing grammar points and stuff, you learn languages by reading books and getting comprehensible input.
