I am now wowed by the pretty picture, no, if technique is perfect, it becomes boring.
It's like opening a pretty gift box, with ribbons and sparkly ornaments, you get excited as to what it could be inside, you open it, yet it is empty.
A pretty picture alone is shallow, it's Kitsch; mediocrity for mediocre people.

Went to a state school.

Here we go

>Studio Drawing
>In class doing a figure study
>Class is half male half female, drawing a female model (Yes. Attractive)
>No Phones out Period.
>There's a troubled young man. Community transfer student.
>He insists we recognize his associated degree as a qualification
>Spends most classes rattling off drawing terms and techniques
>Everything he knows is regurgitated from first year drawing classes
>Is terrible.
>But that's not the issue. Really.
>Tells everyone that we should time the poses.
>Pulls out phone to "set time"
>Immediately gets flamed by half the girls in the class
>All the guys join in
>He gets offended and storms out leaving his phone
>No Phones out Period.
>Someone takes the phone and slides it down the hallway. Shuts the door.
>Comes back like nothing happened and asks where his phone is
>Loses his shit when he figures out its in the hallway and goes to the professor
>"Why was your phone out"
>Everyone loses their shit and he runs out

Later that year

>In crit going over projects that we've been working on outside of class
>Everything is going fine
>Gets to his turn and he's drawn a car.
>Everyone just gradually gives him critique.
>His sense of self worth begins to degrade before our eyes.
>I tell him that I like that he ignored perspective rules in order to make it more cartoony
>And more
>He loses it and tries to argue with me
>I'm smiling and very excited
>He wants to actually fight me
>Sophomore friend volunteers to step in for fun
>All the girls in class tell him to stop
>He examines the larger and meaner Sophomore standing before him.
>By this point he's notices he's probably the smallest guy in the room.
>All the seniors are hype as fuck
>He takes a walk

>I took the professor to the side and told him that the guy was probably on the spectrum.

College was fun.
