That's true and I do agree with you, if someone is a total beginner it's bad to get stuck in contour and experimenting is usually the best way.
I do want to clarify that personally I'm also not a super advanced artist by any means, for transparency pic related is how I do gestures (feel free to tear me open a new one if it's very very bad), and since I usually do them as warm up some are very bad, but as I was trying to explain how I do it earlier, I said I feel like the body has way more curves to capture for a complete gesture and... I guess it shows in my own. I used to do way simpler gestures back in the day but I wasn't learning much from them, I'm mostly speaking from personal experience.
But again since it's personal, if a certain way to do them works for an anon, they should do it. I hope I didn't come across as mean or like I was trying to lecture anons, after all I'm in the beg thread for a reason.
