I think a lot of frustration people have with Ross comes down to his disingenuous attitude he has towards his skillsets to the point of insulting levels of oversimplification. He always starts his videos with a completed sketch, his coloring is usually very basic, and he relies heavily on interspersed jokes to keep his videos lively at the expense of educational content. Perhaps the worst offender of this is his use of color dodge: on the surface, it's a very useful tool, but he literally uses it as if it's a magic wand by having sparkles and magician sound effects go off when he uses it. It's not a mysterious tool if you just read how the damn layer functions, yet Ross wants the mystery because it allows him to be more entertaining. I find his work technically exceptional, but he draws really boring subjects, mostly sameface Disney women. It's unfortunate that he doesn't share or articulate his process further. In all honesty, I don't think that it's his responsibility to share the knowledge he has, but I feel it's not that he doesn't want to. Like with a lot of self-taught artists, I don't think the problem is that he doesn't want to share his knowledge - he just doesn't have the first idea how to put his knowledge into words. At least, not without making jokes in front of a poorly positioned shoulder cam.
