It was answered thousand times before.
The right is student drawing. If you know your fundamentals you will draw like this with easy. That's point.

Hello Anon, first thing first: the Questions&Answers thread if kind of a hub on /ic/, leading to all the good stuff:
>>3133160
Don't hesitate to ask in >>3133160 if you need any direction. Don't waste your time reading the hundred threads we have weekly about artist X being a hack or whining anons: find those who are of interest to your current problems and Pin them. Hide everything that gets in the way, it's a slow board and threads can stay up for weeks before being Archived.

If there was anything else then it'd probably be in the sticky, and I have't heard of any other beginner books except for Fun With a Pencil but thats a bit harder to work with and deals with drawing from imagination instead.

And don't worry about any style imprinting on you, I'm not educated enough about art to make any concrete call but from what I always read from /ic/ and other sources, all styles are based on reality. Reality/realism itself is more of a core/source for all styles and knowing it comes in handy for working with all styles.

Heres some other anon's idea on starting out.

>Implying its just as easy to fuck up 2point perspective as it is to mess up a sphere with cross contours.
>Implying this level of retard is even possible

And this is where we're divided.

You know what, I'll stop. Sorry for shitting up this thread with trying to convince you that cubes are easier to handle than spheres for your average beginner.

Different things work for different people, but to me, FWAP will always remain shit.

Read the books and watch the videos, the sticky is a general introduction to art, the good stuff is in the resources listed.
this image might help you to outline your priorities, but there is no real way to go about learning things, of course, "thinking in 3D"(vilppu's drawing manual for further reference) is a must before starting to learn anything else, but besides that, you can learn the fundamentals in any given order.
>>1703154
People keep posting about that because they literally, just read the sticky, they don't go further by checking the resources listed.
Fucking retarded I know, but that's the reason, the sticky could be better, but it's pretty useful as it is now.

I would like to suggest something, something for the "newbs" right here(from a fellow beginner)
I see an amazing amount of attempts to become a better artist by drawing things that you cannot draw yet. The only way to actually improve as fast as possible is mastering everything step by step. This is crucial. Why? Read on.
Now, where does flow come in? "Flow is the mental state of operation in which a person performing an activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity."
In order to achieve flow, one must take on a task, in which he skilled enough to complete it, but also has a challenge to it.
That means, if you can't construct a face, you must draw a pot. If you cant construct a pot, you must understand perspective, and so on.
In addition to actually learning something useful, instead of just doodling millions of figures without understanding them, approach everything step by step from the bottom, this way, always working "on" your skill level and achieving flow state, a.k.a actually enjoying ever moment of drawing, instead of forcing it.
I have spent quite a few years drawing, with no great improvement. It has been only a few weeks, but I am progressing like never before.

Just hang around here, ask questions in active threads and follow your interests.
Eventually, you will catch some nice pieces of info.
About the pic you posted, if you want to make something like that, it will take time, but it's easy to know what to do in order to do it.
First, you could buy a tablet, the link bellow the sticky link has some tablet discussion that could help you to choose one suitable for your needs, but, you shouldn't do it right away, since you are a total beginner you should practice on paper, until you're decent enough to practice in a tablet. Buying a car is pointless if you don't know how to drive it., remember, your art is as good as it looks on paper (I know it sounds stupid, but some people think that buying a tablet is all you need to draw like a pro).
Also It is true that everything you need to start and get better is on the sticky, however, even if you think you are unskilled, you might not need all resources listed. Besides the fundamental stuff, there's some useless shit on the sticky, but the "useless" label, depends on what kind of knowledge you seek and what are you capable of already.
Check out everything the sticky has to offer, and then start to work.
Don't forget to hang around here and other art related communities.

Hey /ic/,

I am looking for a drafting book that will help me learn to create clean lines. It seems that most drafting books make you use a compass.

Thanks IC

Sure there are, but I don't believe they would make a big difference in your learning curve anyways.

Take a look at pic related at what to study if you really need direction that much

I stumbled upon this post, and intuitively I think it's a well organized way to go.

I've looked for resources on (1), but it seems like being such a simple theme makes it forgettable. In addition, Drafting books tend to go for technical drafting, relying on other tools (t's, triangles, compass, etc...)

I'm a hoarder, and have accumulated a big collection of drawing books, but none treats this as its central theme. So, do you have any resources regarding Line control, Line Weight and Freehand drafting?
