Hey guy, sorry the sad fuckers dont know shit about art and just want to be dicks like the rest of ic.
In my experience the best thing to do to build depth is to have a high contrast. Look at black/white pictures and notice how high the contrast is for example in the shades and highligts of a hand. Try to emulate that so the birds beak is not just white, but many tones.
