Art with a political message?
What could possibly be the point in that?

First time I felt for an artist through their work was with The Third Of May, 1808 by Goya. Also, Michelangelo's Pieta and Edvard Munch's Madonna are both works that really struck a chord with me.

I like Goya, but I've always felt he's a bit overrated. Just never did much for me, though he does have a talent for emotion and atmosphere.

So art is not allowed to contain political themes, or reveal the artist's opinion on social issues, or promote any belief? Where do yo draw the line between art and propaganda. Which specific topics and themes are forbidden?

Do you realize how much art in Ancient Rome had a political message? Trajan's Column, Augustus of Prima Porta...
Nothing that came out of Social Realism or Socialist Realism is art? What about art that promotes religious beliefs? That's arguably the most popular theme in Medieval and Renaissance art.
