Here's a quick paintover, sorry for the sloppiness of it. The biggest issue I see is that you aren't thing about color in terms of shape. Early on in the painting it helps a lot of do block-ins of your basic colors and tones, with more focus on the overall shapes of the colors rather than blending/rendering. This allows you to make sure your values work and your forms make sense before you jump into rendering and playing with your edges.

I honestly agree with this. Value is very important, and while many people say it's better to approach value before learning color it's perfectly possible to learn them concurrently. What you need to do, though, is constantly make a greyscale versions of your image to see if the values have clear contrast with one another until you're able to train your eyes to see value well.
