being, a conjugation of be is an auxiliary verb. These types of verbs are used as the auxiliary of the present participle in progressive tenses expressing continuous action, which in this case it the state of being unkind

so in this case it's actually not comparable. Mean is a adjective. We can rewrite it to something along the lines of
