is the one on the left suppose to be the fix? then god no. washing them with white is not what i meant about subtlety. they both still have this harsh lighting youre really just abusing this cute little rendering method. you need to use a soft brush and get better values(u can see that in some of RJ videos).

its like youre just started from one value and working your way to the next when youre not thinking about the rest. RJ has these areas where its just really that one value on just one area, even when he tries to work to another value its not smoothed out, its like chucks of value if you see on pic related.
